The Beginning
A Message from the Founder
In 1994, Ayrton Senna passed away, and I spent months
feeling as though a part of me had disappeared.
I began to wonder if there was something I could do,
in my own way, to give something back to him and keep
his memory alive.
At the time, the Internet had not yet become widespread.
I was running an online F1-inspired event called
“Animal Formula” through Fujitsu Habitat, a Japanese
PC communication service. The event featured multiple
drivers, special abilities, machine setup, team owners,
engineers, and spectators.
I decided to turn that idea into a business and founded
Pole Position 65. After about four and a half years of
operating the company, I put it into dormancy and returned
to working as a salaried employee.
Years later, at the age of 55, those original feelings
came back. I began to think, “Perhaps I can do it now.”
Formula Ace is the evolution of that original idea,
rebuilt with today’s technology. What began as a PC
communication event has become a video-based project
designed to involve viewers in the experience.
I experienced the joy of connecting with people through
PC communications, even when we could not see each
other’s faces. Today, the Internet has made the world
feel much closer.
I want to connect with more people. And, if possible,
I want to give something back to Ayrton Senna through
what we create.
That is the spirit behind Pole Position 65.
